Just a few short years ago, I showed my teenage daughter a pair of skinny jeans I had worn in the 80’s. She swore she would never wear anything like that, and that they would never be in fashion again. How wrong my young fashion-ista was! Skinny Jeans are very in! I’ve recently had the pleasure of travelling across Canada, and had an opportunity to see what was in style up north. Canada and US Fashion is pretty much the same..including skinny Jeans!

Skinny jeans have a snug fit through the legs and end in a small leg opening. Some skateboarders prefer to wear the jeans because of their ability to stretch, thus making it easier to move around whilst skating. Skinny jeans are also now very prominent in the Bmx scene rendering greater maneuverability and less instances in which the pants are caught in the bikes moving parts. They have grown in the latter half of the 2000’s to become associated with a Grebo trend.

A scooter resembles a skirt all the way around, and has shorts underneath.

I’ve always thought a scooter was a skort, mainly that’s what fashion diva daughter #1 and #3 call them. But we’ve been wrong and what we call a skort is really a scooter.

A skort, or scooter is a great thing for a young girl who likes to play and look nice. Before my youngest discovered this style, she didn’t want to sit on the floor at school, or play on the playground. Now when she wears a scooter (or skort) she can do it all while having the style of a skirt! Even a short skirt.

I like this store mostly because it is everything my 15 year old likes, all in one place. She does not like to shop…especially with me, and likes the computer. Now she can point out what she wants and I order it for her online. No sales person, no changing room, and best of all, no Moms telling you that you need a different size.

Hot topic bases their fashion and styles on rock music. Most of the clothing is dark in color and a bit on the gothic side.

Just earlier today I was listening to the radio with my 8 year old daughter, as she played with her barbie dolls. When a Miley Cyrus song came on, my daughter exclaimed, “Miley is even on the radio!”. I should mention that we rarely listen to the radio outside of the car, and in the car we usually listen to a “Golden Oldies”, or “Hits of the 70s and 80s” station.

I am also, not a fan of Hannah Montana, or Miley Cyrus. I think her acting is over-rated and her singing voice is not all that. She’s also not the best looking kid on the Disney Channel. But my daughter is a huge fan. She loves her music, her videos, her TV show and anything related to Miley Cyrus/ Hannah Montanah. But why? What makes this normal looking teen such a super star?

Most young girls want to be famous…either famous singers or actress. In my experience anyway. I have 3 daughters, and 2 of them are Diva wannabees. Miley IS the average everyday normal girl, who became famous. She is every (or most) young girls dream come true.

I guess I do like Miley Cyrus a bit Some of her tunes are catchy, and there could be worse people for my daughter to idolize.
